Art is a unique, autonomous concept. This is an expression of the artist’s freedom to choose the materials, topics, and meanings, as well as the expression of the bondage and restrictions caused by socio-political, economic, cultural reasons.
My work “Behind a Fig Leaf” is an attempt to demonstrate this unity of contradictions in the sculpture. The specific structure of the work with an imitation of green copper demonstrates the obsolescence of The Fig Leaf Campaign, of sort of an artistic activity that was legitimized by the Papal bull in 1557. There were massively mounted fig leaves on antique statues during the action, which changed the main idea of the sculptures and created new art objects.
